Solemn Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at Son Tien Dai Loc Thien Pagoda
On November 23-25, 2023, at Son Tien Pagoda - Dai Loc Thien, the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony - one of the most important and sacred holidays of Theravada Buddhism was held on a solemn scale, gathering a large number of international monks, Buddhists and pilgrims.
The Deep Meaning of Kathina Ceremony
The Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony is an occasion for lay Buddhists to show their respect and gratitude to the Sangha after the three-month rainy season retreat. During that time, the Sangha concentrates on practicing, keeping precepts and developing virtue. When the rainy season ends, Buddhists offer robes and essential items to the Sangha, demonstrating the spirit of supporting the Triple Gem, while creating good karma and accumulating merit.
The word "Kathina" in Pali means "firm" - symbolizing the stability of merit. The reward from offering robes during the Kathina ceremony is considered greater and more stable than ordinary merit, bringing long-term peace to the donor.
Cultural and spiritual exchange event
The special feature of this year’s Kathina ceremony at Son Tien Pagoda is the participation and witnessing of monks from many countries such as Sri Lanka, Belgium, the United States, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. This is a rare opportunity to exchange and connect Buddhist cultures, together spreading spiritual values and teachings of compassion and wisdom to the community.
In addition to the official robe offering ceremony, the event also featured the traditional dance troupe Sampath Alahakoon from Sri Lanka – presenting artistic performances rich in identity and spirituality, helping attendees understand more about Theravada Buddhist culture.
The Organizing Committee was also honored to welcome the entire Board of Directors and staff of Son Tien tourist area , along with thousands of Buddhists and pilgrims from all over to attend and worship.

At the ceremony, Buddhists will offer kasaya robes – symbols of purity, compassion and noble service.
